ChromeMate® Shown to Help in Age-Related Metabolism
ChromeMate® is a bioavailable form of chromium, a trace mineral needed for the metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Advancing age increases the risk for high blood pressure, obesity, unhealthy lipid profiles, insulin resistance and glucose intolerance (inefficient use of insulin or blood sugar by the body). Experimental and human studies have been conducted to evaluate the safety and potential usefulness of ChromeMate®, a unique oxygen-coordinated niacin-bound chromium ingredient, in age-related metabolic disorders. ChromeMate® has been shown to significantly lower sugar-induced hypertension in lab animals.
Year-long supplementation of ChromeMate®, grape seed extract and zinc methionine in animals safely reduced systolic blood pressure, free radical damage and improved levels of glycosylated hemoglobin, a measure of blood sugar control. In aging diabetic animals, increasing doses of ChromeMate® significantly decreased free radical damage in organs, DNA fragmentation (genetic damage) and blood pressure. ChromeMate® demonstrated low toxicity when acute (extreme) doses were administered in standard safety tests. Finally, overweight African-American women supplemented with ChromeMate® experienced a significant loss of fat and sparing of lean body mass in a clinical cross-over trial without adverse findings. These results suggest that ChromeMate® may favorably modify age-associated risk factors and support its use as a safe dietary supplement.
